Welsh Wine Week

Vineyards across Wales are gearing up to celebrate this year’s Welsh Wine Week, running 2nd - 10th June 2012.

With homegrown wines currently enjoying a surge in popularity, Welsh Wine Week is the ideal time for consumers to taste Welsh wines for themselves; and discover why Wales is fast becoming known for the high quality of its wines as well as its rugby!

Throughout Welsh Wine Week, participating winemakers will be offering visitors the opportunity to tour their vineyards, enjoy tasting sessions and take advantage of special discounts, while learning about how the wines are produced and their individual characteristics develop.

Wales now boasts more than 20 vineyards and produces approximately 100,000 bottles of wine each year. Among the vineyards taking part is White Castle Vineyard in Abergavenny who will be uncorking their first ever wines during Welsh Wine Week – a celebration indeed!

Welsh Government Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and European Programmes, Alun Davies, comments: “With the awareness and popularity of home-grown wines on the increase amongst consumers, there’s never been a better time for us to help further raise the profile of Welsh wine and spread the word about its quality and future potential.”
